Dear Newman Friends,
MON, APRIL 7 - SPORTS NIGHT (8-9:30 PM)
Sports night continues at St. Scholastica's (8201 W Outer Dr., Detroit MI 48219).
THURS, APRIL 10 - OUTREACH (11 AM - 1 PM)
Come out to help us evangelize and advertise for the Upper Room! We will be having an awesome presentation that night about Divine Mercy, and want as many people in attendance as possible!! It is up to us to reach out to as many people as we can, and you can help! This outreach event will be taking place in the food court, on the first floor of the Student Center.
THURS, APRIL 10 - UPPER ROOM (7:30 - 9:30 PM)
As previously stated, Upper Room this week will be focused on Divine Mercy. Our guest speaker, Bill Brewis, works at the Divine Mercy Center and has beautiful insight into this great mystery. This is particularly special because Bl. Pope John Paul II will be canonized on Divine Mercy Sunday in just three weeks time! Please come join us.
FRI, APRIL 11 - THEOLOGY OF THE BODY (11 AM)
Weekly Theology of the Body sessions take place on Friday at 11am. This is one of the most powerful contributions that Pope John Paul II has made to Catholic thought. Leading up to his canonization it's great to become more familiar with his teachings. We will start w/ a DVD and follow with a discussion. No materials needed, just show up to learn about God's plan for sex and marriage.
SAT, APRIL 12 - SOLANUS CASEY CENTER SERVICE SATURDAY (9 AM - 12 PM)
Once again the Solanus Casey Center will be having their Service Saturday. For more information go tohttp://www.solanuscasey.org/event_calendar/events.shtml.
SUN, APRIL 13 - PALM SUNDAY WITH THE ARCHBISHOP (11 AM)
Archbishop Allen Vigneron has invited all young adults to come celebrate Palm Sunday with him at the Blessed Sacrament Cathedral. Please let us know if you need a ride. We will still have mass and dinner here at the Newman Center at 5 PM.
For all of you who ordered a shirt/wanted a shirt/read an email about our shirts...THE ORDER HAS BEEN PLACED! We placed the order last night, and the shirts are guaranteed to be delivered by Friday, April 18. Get pumped!
Looking forward to distributing them, then seeing all of you sporting some cool Newman gear around campus! :)
Enjoy the rest of your weekend and God bless you!
Brothers, Associates and Friends,
I am absolutely delighted to
inform you that His Holiness Pope Francis has named one of our
priests, Fr. Christian Riesbeck, Auxiliary Bishop of Ottawa.
We give heartfelt praise and
thanks to the Lord for His goodness! We know that Fr. Christian will
be a wonderful shepherd and will serve the Lord and His Bride, the
Church, with genuine humility, compassionate love, and energetic
zeal! As a community we are truly grateful to the Holy Father, for
calling one of our brothers to the Order of Bishops.
Bishop-elect Christian Riesbeck,
CC will bring with him to the Episcopal Order not only our
wholehearted support and constant prayers but the charism, mission,
and heritage of our spiritual family, the Companions of the Cross. I
cannot help but imagine the joy welling up in the heart of Fr. Bob,
our Founder and spiritual father, as he looks on.
The Episcopal ordination is
tentatively set for the Solemnity of St. Joseph, March 19, 2014 at
Notre Dame Cathedral in Ottawa. Confirmation of this date and further
details will be forthcoming in the days and weeks ahead.
Please join us in entrusting
Bishop-elect Christian to the maternal embrace of the Blessed Virgin
Mary, the first companion of the Cross.
